Public safety telecommunicators possess a special skill set that most people cannot comprehend. They must remain calm and empathetic, yet be gently assertive and maintain control when gathering information from and providing life-saving instructions to the public and responders. They are passionate about what they do and who they serve, and they continue to show up in the face of long hours, stressful calls, staffing challenges, and ever-changing procedures and technology. Their dedication is second to none, and they deserve our enduring gratitude for the work they do and the lives they save every day.

This year for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week Charleston County will honor our public safety telecommunicators with several special activities: a walkway of hearts signed by the responders, handwritten cards from our leadership and administrative staff, a painting station to create decorative pavers to place around a raised garden we will plant, themed dress down/up days, and made-to-order milkshakes prepared by leadership. While we take this week to spotlight our heroes under the headset, we must continue to celebrate and appreciate them all year long!
